Zebramole Reference

Description

So this ended up looking less like a mole and more like a freak accident between a scorpion and a lab rat. Also, despite the description below, I decided not to finish drawing the quad form because it's so similar to the anthro (besides, you know, being on four legs) and I liked how the anthro rendition came out better (except for that pointy nose). But I'm glad I figured out a way to draw this thing's head from the front. I was having trouble with that.

----------------------------
Common name: Zebramole
Scientific name: Rattus zebra

Not an actual type of mole, the zebramole is a large rodent, about the size of a jackrabbit. Zebramoles have fat little bodies, equipped with large claws for digging, and their black skin is visible on their paws and whiskered snouts. A stiff, coarse mane runs from the base of the neck to the pole between their ears.

Since zebramoles are weak, waddling creatures with terrible eyesight, their striking, zebra-like colors serve as a warning: they posses a potent venom in their stingers. However, zebramoles would rather tunnel underground in the manner of Bugs Bunny to escape danger or give a warning swat with their big, unwieldy claws. When they do resort to stinging, they can control the amount of venom they inject, and the effects of the dosage depend on the other animal's size. For animals of a chicken's size or smaller, strong stings can cause paralysis.

Zebramoles prefer a habitat of semi-arid hills, with temperatures ranging from 70-95 F (about 21-35 C). Floods, freezing temperatures, and high humidity are dangerous to zebramoles, but when it comes to dry heat, they can seek relief in their cool, dark tunnels.

Fruits, nuts, and tubers compose their main diet. However, they will take the opportunity to tunnel into a chicken coop if it isn't raised off the ground. Fond of meat, diary products, and flatbreads, omnivorous zebramoles are pests in the eyes of farmers.
